pawsPaws for Books: Come. Stay. Read a Great Tale! 

Our book fair begins Monday, March 12th and will be open until Friday, March 16th from 8 am to 3 pm. Tuesday night the book fair will be open from 5 to 6 PM, before and during our Family Literacy Night. 

Grands and families are invited Thursday morning from 8 - 10 AM to enjoy a light breakfast while shoping in the book fair. 

Our ONLINE bookfair is open Monday, March 4 - 17th. There is a link to our online book fair posted on the left side of the Primary School web site; www.elbert.k12.ga.us

🎉🎉We are so incredibly proud of this class AND all of our kindergarten students! Mrs. Padgett’s class 100% is reading for pleasure and participating in our Accelerated Reader program. This has never happened in the history of ECPS. We also have a record number of kindergarten students participating in our AR program this year overall. I’m so blessed to be a part of this amazing faculty of teachers and thrilled to be able to feed the love of books! ðŸ˜

Time: 8:30am – 1:30pm
Location : ECPS Gymnasium – look for signs directing you to the gym .
Who can register?
The legal guardians can register:
● Any child who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2018
● Any child who is a resident in Elbert County, GA.
● Current Pre-K students are AUTOMATICALLY ENROLLED!! There is no need to attend registration.

The Friends of the Elbert County Public Library will open their Fall Book Sale Thursday, October 19 at 5PM  in the library’s multipurpose room at 345 Heard Street.

The complete listing of hours is as follows:

Thursday, October 19 :  5PM – 8PM

Friday, October 20 :   10AM – 5PM

Saturday, October 21:  9AM – 1PM

Monday, October 23:  10AM – 5PM

Hardbacks, Large paperbacks and books on CD  will be sold for $1.00 per item.

Small paperbacks, children’s books, & DVDs  will be sold for 25 cents

The Library will happily accept the donations in good condition until close of business Tuesday, October 17.

Librarian Jan Burroughs reports, “The Friends  decided to move the sale up a month in hopes of avoiding the frenzy of the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. However, a big ‘ol box of books makes a great Christmas present if you have a big  reader in the family. Where else can you fill up a milk crate with books for under $20.00!  I give my sister of huge box of the “friends”  books every year for Christmas. She doesn’t care if their used or not-- just as long as it’s a good mystery!”

The Friends of the Library use the proceeds of this event to help fund several of the events for the children each summer  and to support the library’s electronic book library with the Georgia Download Destination. The Friends also help fund other Library events and services throughout the year.

When you come to the sale, please consider joining the Friends of Library and help support the Elbert County Library and it’s many projects and services.

Our photographers will be back THIS FRIDAY MORNING to take photos of any students and faculty who were absent or just didn't like their first photos on Picture Day. These will be used in our 2017-2018 yearbook. Come Friday with your hair combed and a big smile!!

The Wild West Book Fair is here!! We have two family events planned this week; Tuesday night 5:00-6:00 we will be open before the Title I/Math night meeting. Thursday morning we will host Breadfast in the Book Fair 8:00 - 10:00 AM. You may shop with (or with out ;-) your students and enjoy a light breakfast. 

The book fair will be open daily from 8 AM to 3 PM. See you this week!!

First Grade Parent Workshop/Parent Resource Lunch lunch and learn

WHAT: Lunch and Learn for First Grade Parents

Bring your own lunch and learn more about how you can monitor your child's progress of mastering the Georgia Standards of Excellence through Infinite Campus, Destiny and RenPlace.

Title I Annual Parent Night: Learn information about the goals and purposes of Title I; Learn about the Georgia Standards of Excellence, curriculum and assessments. Ask questions about Title I plans, programs, activities and provide suggestion. Your child will have a part in leading the program for this meeting!

September is Attendance Awareness Month attendance matters

Research shows that two to four missed days in the first month of school can predict chronic absence throughout the year.

Keeping Our Students Safe on the Roads! safety check

On Saturday, September 23, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Elberton Police Department will have officers that are certified in child seat installments available to assist you in keeping your child safe on the highway.

Is your child’s safety seat installed correctly? Is your child properly harnessed? Has your child out grown their seat? Has your seat expired or had a recall? Come out and get the answers to all of your questions.

The event will be held at the City of Elberton Fire Department located at:

No appointment is needed, simply stop by.

Parent Workshop

"Tips for a Successful School Year", will be held on Sept. 7th at 6 pm.  The "Kids on the Block" puppet show will be performing on that evening.  The puppets will be discussing problem solving skills, safety tips and suggestions to make 2017-2018 a great school year!


PTO Officers Installed PTO officers

ECPS hosted the first PTO meeting of the 2017-2018 school year! Parents were welcomed to visit their child's teacher(s) and classroom. Administrator Rosa Harris installed new officers and President Samantha Rucker discussed past and future projects with those present. Afterwards, there was pizza and drinks for everyone to enjoy.

Title I Annual Parent Meetings

Parental involvement can make a huge difference in student achievement and is a major focus of the Elbert County School District’s school improvement efforts.  The purpose of the meetings is to provide information to parents to help them learn about the goals and purposes of Title I; learn about the standards, curriculum and assessments; and provide suggestions and ask questions about Title I plans, programs and activities.  The Title I Director and principals will present information along with other activities that have been planned at each respective school.  Come see and hear the wonderful things that are happening in our schools and learn more about the Title I program.

As a part of our effort to continue our school-parent-community involvement, we need your input as to how to best put to use our Parent Involvement Allocation. Last year, we were able to organize parent trainings and workshops.  Some workshops could include how to assist students with homework, understanding the standards students are required to learn, and helping parents to understand our new math systems.  Other expenditures could be purchasing parent resource kits or materials for parents to check out and use at home.  

We want to offer what will best serve our students and parents, so we would like for you to provide input and make suggestions as to what you think would be beneficial for both.  Please contact Connie Garrett, cgarrett@elbert.k12.ga.us for comments. Safety Concerns Prompt Cancellation of All Classes on Monday, August 21 solar eclipse

The Elbert County School District has cancelled all classes for Monday, Aug. 21, due to safety concerns associated with the solar eclipse.  It will be considered an inclement weather day and a make-up day will not be required.  All staff, except bus drivers and cafeteria staff, will report to work as normal.

Initial plans were for our school district to delay dismissal until 3:20 p.m. on August 21, but an email notification was received on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from the company supplying protective solar eclipse glasses to our three largest schools.  The notification stated that confirmation had not been received from the supplier that the eclipse glasses have been sourced from a recommended manufacturer.  It explicitly recommends that the glasses not be used to view the sun or the eclipse. 

After receiving the notification, various options were reviewed.  It was decided that the most safe and responsible action was to cancel all classes for Monday, August 21. 

All Elbert County schools will continue to educate students on the science associated with the solar eclipse.  Likewise, we will continue to provide guidance on the dangers of looking directly at the sun at any time without the use of special safety glasses.  Guidelines for watching the eclipse have been posted by

NASA at https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety.

The research behind Ready4K shows that receiving fun facts and easy tips can significantly increase children’s learning.



GOSA has developed a literacy-focused website that provides parents, caregivers, and teachers with interactive, informational strategies to help children (birth through 3rd grade) learn and build upon early education and literacy skills.   

Words2Reading is a tool that provides simple and easy to understand instructional tips and strategies that can be used to assist in developing rich oral language, reading, and writing opportunities to help ensure school readiness and success. The Words2Reading platform was built with user experience and accessibility at the forefront while offering semi-tailored information to parents and educators across various categories. Words2Reading aims to educate and combat learning disparities while engaging with parents and childcare workers digitally through content.

Words2Reading will work to bridge the early childhood literacy gap across the state of Georgia while connecting and providing users with appropriate content and activities.

GKids Readiness Check GKids

As you know, a child’s first years in school can set the tone for the future school years.  For this reason it is important to make sure they are prepared socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically to enter kindergarten. The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) has partnered with the Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) in an effort to help both schools and families with the transition to kindergarten.


We are pleased and excited to announce the launch of a parent resource website for the GKIDS Readiness Check!   The site will serve as a resource for parents to learn more about kindergarten readiness, the skills assessed on the GKIDS Readiness Check, and activities to help support their child’s development at home.  The site includes Spanish translation and closed captioning.

Parents/Guardians, please join us during the summer break for two separate district level school improvement meetings.  The Comprehensive LEAs Improvement Plan (CLIP) /Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA) meeting is scheduled Tuesday, June 20, 2017.  It will be held at the ECMS auditorium beginning at 2:00p.m.  The purpose of the meeting is to present district level school improvement information and obtain input from all stakeholders.

 The district’s Parent and Family Engagement Plan meeting is scheduled Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Central Office in the Staff Development room beginning at 2:00p.m.  The purpose of the meeting is to obtain input from stakeholders regarding the best use of Federal funds for Parent and Family Engagement at all school levels.  Please contact Dr. F. Floyd, Federal Programs Director, for additional information.

Presented by Kids on the Block, the kindergarten and first grade students enjoyed a puppet show focused on discussing feelings and how to enhance mental health. They also discussed following directions and why it is important to listen to your teachers and who to talk to if they are having problems.
