AEP Recognizes Mentors and Volunteers AEP Mentors and Volunteers

The Elbert County Alternative Education Program recently recognized its mentors and volunteers for the 2017-2018 school year who have partnered with the organization to offer assistance and support to students in the program.  In conjunction with the AWJ Elberton Community PTA, the Mentor Program is in its second full year of operation. The mentors include individuals who are affiliated with the Elberton American Legion Post 14, Elberton Community PTA, Elberton Police Department, and Elbert County School System Retired Educators.  Dr. Tammy Mason, Administrator and Director of Alternative Education, commented on what a success the mentoring program has been and the difference it is making in the lives of the students. The mentors visit students weekly to check in, offer encouragement, help students set goals, and develop a plan for reaching those goals.  Dr. Mason presented cards and Zaxby's free meal certificates to each participant.
