Modern Language Course Descriptions

Spanish I

Grade Level: 10-12

Recommendation: Successful completion of 9th English

Credit: 1 Unit

Students are introduced to the language and culture of various Hispanic countries. Conversations based on everyday situations and activities build a large, practical vocabulary. Basic grammar principles enable students to apply learned vocabulary in both oral and written expression.
 

Spanish II

Grade Level: 10-12

Credit: 1 Unit

Students improve pronunciation and continue to build vocabulary. More extensive grammar is introduced, enabling students to express themselves more adeptly in both oral and written expression.
 
 

Spanish III

Grade Level: 11-12

Credit: 1 Unit

Reading comprehension is enhanced and more difficult grammar principles are addressed. Students read and write more extensively in the language.
 
 
Russian I
Grade Level: 10-12

Credit: 1 Unit

Students are introduced to the Russian language and Russian culture. This level begins to develop the skills of understanding and speaking Russian and introduces the language for everyday purposes. Students exchange simple spoken and written information in the Russian language, utilizing cultural references. To provide a framework for such communication students will learn basic grammatical structures.
 

Russian II

Grade Level: 10-12

Credit: 1 Unit

This level continues to build upon the basic foundation provided in Level I. Students extend and deepen their knowledge of Russian grammar. Upon completion, students can expect to express nonexistence and absence, possession and attribution, specific quantity. During the oral practice students will talk about daily activities and schedules, academic world, homes and family members.

 

Russian III

Grade Level 10-12

Credit: 1 Unit

The Level III language course focuses on the continued development of communicative competence in the Russian language and understanding of the culture of the people who speak the language. Students use basic language structures with accuracy and recombine learned material to express their thoughts.
