Scholastic "E" - Level 4! ScholasticE-Level 4

The Scholastic “E” is awarded to students in grades 9-12 whose scholastic records are superior. Students must meet criteria for their graduating class as outlined in the agenda in order to be considered for this award.

Students who earn recognition for Scholastic “E” Level Four must have met the criteria for the award for seven consecutive semesters. The following group of seniors was recognized at our Senior Scholarship Night tonight for demonstrating academic excellence during their 4 years at ECCHS.

Several special awards were given to some very deserving JROTC seniors at our 2018 Awards Program (5/15). The Kelly C. Turner Award is awarded to the overall outstanding senior in our JROTC program. The cadet must 1) be in good standing militarily and scholastically, 2) be of high moral character, 3) display a high order of loyalty to unit, school and country and 4) show exceptional potential for military leadership. The 2018 recipient of this award is Cadet COL Hunter Cavanaugh. Mr. Casey Turner presented the award. Congratulations, Hunter!

Derrick McKnight - The Donald L. Ballew Memorial Award DerrickMcKnight

Several special awards were given to some very deserving JROTC seniors at our 2018 Awards Program (5/15). The Donald L. Ballew Memorial Award is awarded for outstanding leadership traits and participation in extracurricular activities that foster both scholastic and military excellence. The cadet must have demonstrated qualities of dependability and good character, respected military discipline standards, and have possessed a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC training. The 2018 recipient of this award is Cadet LTC Derrick McKnight. SGT Cody Craft presented the award. Congratulations, Derrick! 

Jake LeBarron-The Elberton Police Department Citizenship Award JakeLeBarron

Several special awards were given to some very deserving JROTC seniors at our 2018 Awards Program tonight (5/15). The Elberton Police Department Citizenship Award is awarded to a cadet with outstanding achievements. In addition, this cadet must 1) be in good standing scholastically, 2) display moral strength and stability & cleanliness in mind and body, and 3) display loyalty to school and country. The 2018 recipient of this award is Cadet CPT Jake LeBarron. Elberton Police Dept. Investigator Scott Marunich presented the award. Congratulations, Jake!

Seniors Earn Credentialing Cords RedCords2018

Students who successfully complete three courses in a CTAE Pathway or have taken an AP course are given the opportunity to sit for a national credentialing exam to show their level of technical and academic achievement. Tonight(5/10) at our Senior Awards Program, those ECCHS students who have taken the End of Pathway Assessment or Advanced Placement Test and scored at proficiency level were recognized with a cord to wear at graduation. District Comprehensive Needs Assessment/District Improvement Plan

You are invited to attend the district level Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA)/District Improvement Plan (DIP) meeting which will be held Tuesday, June 5 at ECMS in the auditorium beginning at 2:00p.m.  The purpose of the meeting is to share strengths and needs at both the district and school levels.  All stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide feedback for developing and revising the District Parent and Family Engagement Plan and the District Improvement Plan which address student achievement outcomes through academic standards and performance expectations.

The "Stop the Bleed" School Response Program is designed to educate school teachers, nurses, and staff on how to render immediate, potentially life-saving medical aid to injured students or co-workers while awaiting the arrival of professional responders. After an extensive interview period today at ECCHS between campus administration, the Elberton Police Department, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, no further concern has been discovered regarding allegations surrounding a campus shooting.  

As previously noted, one ECCHS Student has been charged with making Terroristic Threats and Acts.  During the investigation, a second ECCHS Student was taken into custody today, however the charge was not directly related to the incident.  

ECCHS will continue to work with Elbert County Director of Security, Officer Shayne Bennett, and local law enforcement officials, to investigate the incident until completion.  At this time, there is no further safety concern to ECCHS faculty and/or students.

You're Invited to Curriculum Night! CurriculumNight

On Tuesday, March 20th, ECCHS will hold a Science/Social Studies/CTAE/Fine Arts Night from 6:00-7:00 PM. This event will allow stakeholders to attend classes in those departments in order to participate in activities and conversations similar to the ones their children see/hear daily. Teachers will work with teams/groups to provide the instructions necessary to accomplish tasks associated with the Georgia Standards of Excellence. In addition, our CTAE Dept. will have displays set up in our in entrance hall displaying student work and information about the various pathways. All stakeholders are encouraged to attend!

Safety is Our Priority - Always! PressRelease3-15-18

On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, the Elberton Police Department received
information regarding threats made by a current Elbert County Comprehensive
High School student. The student was heard by peers to say that he was going to
“Shoot up” the High School on Friday, March 16, 2018. An investigation into the
following accusation was conducted between Campus and Police personnel. At
approximately midnight, 18 year old Michael Singleton was arrested and charged
with Terroristic Threats and Acts.


At this time, there are no additional credible threats against students or faculty at
Elbert County Comprehensive High School, and the investigation into all facts
associated with this situation will continue.


Local authorities have contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and if
needed, continued assistance will take place at ECCHS.
Further updates will be shared throughout the day.

Elbert County Blue Devil Wrestling Junior Martrez Huff was named the winner of the Kyle D. Wilhite Memorial Wrestling Award at the annual ECCHS Winter Sports Banquet on March 6, 2018. Each year the award winner is selected by Elbert County wrestling coaches, who are asked to select the Blue Devil wrestler who shows the most sportsmanship, provides the most leadership and displays the most competitive spirit among the team. The award was presented by Mrs. Connie Spivey, mother of Kyle Wilhite, and her husband Mr. Jerry Spivey. Martrez is the 23rd winner of the prestigious Kyle D. Wilhite Memorial Wrestling Award.

3rd Annual Blue Devil Dash is 3/24! 2018DevilDash

Don’t forget to sign up for our Third Annual Blue Devil Dash 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run happening on March 24th at 9:00 AM (registration table opens at 8:00 AM). Miss ECCHS Pageant Is Saturday! 2018MissECCHSPageant

This Saturday is the 3rd annual Miss ECCHS Pageant. We have a fantastic group of girls participating this year! The pageant will be held Feb 24th at 7:00 pm in the middle school auditorium. Please come out and support these participants. You can even vote for your favorite contestant for our People's Choice! Admission is $5 at the door. All money raised goes to support our band boosters.

Interested in learning more about Dual Enrollment opportunities for your child? Have you heard about this program (formerly known as "Move on When Ready") but are not exactly sure what it is? Come to our parent information session in the cafeteria on Tuesday, February 20th at 6:00 PM and learn all about it! Our target audience for this meeting are parents of current juniors and sophomores who are interested in participating in the 2018-2019 school year.

Winter Sports Banquet is 3/6!

The 2017-18 Winter Sports Awards Banquet is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6th at the First Baptist Church ROC Building, beginning at 6:15 p.m.Sports to be recognized are: Girls and Boys Basketball, JV and Varsity Basketball Cheerleaders and Wrestling. All athletes will be admitted free. Please see your coach for your ticket. Tickets for all others are $8.00 and are on sale in the Athletic Office. LAST DAY to purchase tickets will be Friday, March 2nd. Dress code is expected to be followed.

Parent Conference Day is Feb. 20th! 2018EarlyReleaseParentConf

ECCHS is once again proud to participate with all Elbert County Schools in hosting a “Parent Conference Day” on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the conclusion of our Early Release Day. Between the hours of 1:00 PM-6:00 PM, ECCHS Faculty will look to schedule conferences with parents to help better understand concerns and/or issues that may have arisen with students on their roster. If you would specifically like to meet with a particular teacher, we would ask that you contact that staff member directly and set a time that best accommodates your schedule. Some letters were possibly sent home with your child requesting a conference time. Please check with him/her to be certain.

2018 Honor Graduates w/ Distinction Announced 2018_HonorGradsDistinction

In order to be named an Honor Graduate with Distinction, students must be HOPE Scholarship-eligible, and have achieved a cumulative weighted average of 97 or above by the end of the first semester of their senior year.

In alphabetical order, the 2018 Honor Graduates with Distinction are: Victoria Berry, Ryan Landaverde, Madelyn Libby, Gracie Page, Braydon Segars, Emma Smith, Alex Townsend, and Ricky Veal.

Added to this list, the top three highest-ranking seniors will be featured speakers at the graduation ceremony and will be recognized on the Academic Wall of Fame.

Tay Huff is the 48th Winner of the Piccirillo Award! TayHuff

Elbert County Blue Devil Football Senior Tay Huff was named the winner of the L.C. Piccirillo Football Scholarship at the annual ECCHS Fall Sports Banquet on December 11, 2017. The award was presented by Lenny and Ciro Piccirillo (children of the award originator), pictured here with Tay. Each year the award winner is selected by Elbert County football coaches, who are asked to select the Blue Devil player who shows the most sportsmanship, provides the most leadership and displays the most competitive spirit among the senior players. Tay is the 48th winner of the prestigious Piccirillo Award.

Sponsored by Augusta Coca-Cola, the Golden Helmet Award is given to one football player each year who has displayed outstanding accomplishment in academic and athletic performance throughout the season. Students, FCCLA needs your help! We have agreed to a Can Food Drive Competition against Lincoln County. We need YOU to bring can goods to your 1st block teachers starting Dec. 8! The 1st block class with the most cans will win a Dunkin' Donut Dozen (or 3) for their class on Friday, Dec. 15! We will count the cans on Thursday, Dec. 14th.

Parents, we need your help with Part 2! We will take the cans we collect at school to the game against Lincoln County on Dec. 20th. Fans and parents can bring additional cans to add to the our container located at the entrance of the game. The winning school will be announced during half-time. 11th Annual College Fair = Success! 2017CollegeFair

We had our 11th Annual College Fair today, 10/6/17, and once again it was a big success! Faculty & staff wore shirts representing their own alma maters and encouraged students to “ask me about my college”. Students visited the various college / military booths, talked to the recruiters, and learned more about each institution. JROTC 5K Color Run Info JROTC_Color_Run

 

Our JROTC Department will host a 5K Color Run on August 18th at 9:00 AM! Registration and packet pickup will begin at 8:00 AM at the designated tent on the front lawn of ECCHS. Before the race starts, everyone will be given a packet of colored powder to throw into the air. Once the race starts, the racers will be doused with another packet of colored powder at every kilometer marker. This pattern continues until the end of the race. This is a fun run, so, by the time everyone is finished, they have multiple colors of powder on them. Great picture opportunities!! Water hoses will be available at the end to spray them down. Proceeds will help fund the upcoming years activities for the JROTC department. Anyone interested in running can download the application from the school website or come by the JROTC department for an application. T-Shirts are only available through pre-registration. Fall Sports Banquet is Dec. 11th Fall Sports Banquet

The 2017-18 Fall Sports Banquet is scheduled for Monday, December 11th. The banquet will be at the First Baptist ROC Building, beginning at 6:15 p.m. Sports to be recognized are Cross Country, Football, Varsity and Jr. Varsity Cheerleading, Softball and One Act. All Athletes will be admitted free. Please see your coach for your ticket. Tickets for all others are $8.00 and are on sale in the Athletic Office beginning November 27th. LAST DAY to purchase tickets is Friday December 8th. Dress Code is expected to be followed.

Summer School Transportation is Available! SchoolBus

Attention students attending Summer School at Mountain Education Charter HS! We will start running a bus to and from Summer School on Monday, June 4th. The bus will load at 3:30 PM at the Elberton Civic Center to transport students to Bowman. The bus will load again at 8:00 PM in Bowman and return to the Elberton Civic Center. Remember, this will be starting on Monday, June 4th. This bus will run each Monday through Thursday in June and July (with the exception of July 4th week). We hope you will take full advantage of this service provided by the Transportation Dept. of ECSD!

Lady Devils Named to All-Region! 2017 All-Region Softball

Five members of the Lady Devils softball team were selected to the 2017 8-AA All-Region team. Sydney Blackmon, Madelyn Libby, and Emily Starrett were all named First Team All-Region. Baylie Bialis and Allie Dunn were each named Honorable Mention. All were chosen due to their outstanding effort they put forth this season.

Way to go, Ladies! We are so proud of you!

Board of Education Approves 2018-2019 Academic Calendar Calendar

At its January 22 regular meeting, the Elbert County Board of Education approved the academic calendar for the 2018-2019 school year. School district staff and parents voted on calendar options during the months of December and January.  After the calendar survey was closed, Superintendent Chuck Bell recommended that the Board approve the calendar option that had received the largest number of votes.

School Nominees for 2018 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program GHPNominees17-18

Congratulations to the following students who have been selected as this year’s school nominees for the 2018 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program. Our school nominees are:

Spencer Daughtry in Music. Spencer’s instrument is the trombone, and his sub-area is Brass. Spencer is the son of Bill and Ladonna Daughtry.
Kaden Smith in Music. Kaden’s instrument is drums, and his sub-area is Jazz. Kaden is the son of Larry and Allison Smith.

These students will now move on to the state level competition, where they will submit a written application. If chosen as a semifinalist, they will participate in a statewide interview. If chosen as a GHP finalist, they will spend 4 weeks at Berry College this summer in their chosen area. Congratulations to these 2 students and best of luck to them in their application process!

Ash Bennett - 2018 HOBY Ambassador! Ash Bennett--HOBY2018

Congratulations to sophomore Ashford Bennett who has been selected as Elbert County’s HOBY Ambassador for 2018! The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminars are held each spring around the country and is the nation’s only program exclusively designed for high school sophomores. At ECCHS, students are selected based on a written application and teacher recommendations, and must demonstrate potential leadership ability. Ashford will attend a weekend seminar in June at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA with other students from all over the state. He is the son of Janna and Shayne Bennett. Congratulations, Ash!
