Congratulations to Senior Blue Devil Twirler Mary Katherine Truett for earning a spot on the University of Georgia Majorette line for the 2017-18 Redcoat Band!
The UGA collegiate line is nationally ranked and has won many National Collegiate Showteam and Dancetwirl championships. They compete every 2 years at NBTA's national/world competition held at Notre Dame University. Auditions for this group are long and difficult including specific tricks, learning a 1, 2, and 3 baton routine quickly and performing it back with showmanship and perfection. They must also perform a routine that they have learned previously from their coach to music that they've chosen. After all of this is completed, the young women who are auditioning then meet with a panel of judges for a seated interview. This process takes from 4-5 hours. Mary’s competition coach, Ms. Polly Fleming, says that “becoming a UGA Majorette means long hours of hard work to keep the magnificent tradition passed down alive and well in Sanford Stadium and everywhere they perform. Mary is more than ready for that challenge!”
Here at ECCHS, we have no doubt that Mary will be a wonderful addition “Between the Hedges” this fall! Mary is the 7th Blue Devil Twirler to earn a spot on this prestigious line. She is the daughter of Jeff and Connie Garrett and the late Tony Truett. Congrats, Mary! We are SO proud of you!
