JROTC Raider Update from MSG Homer:
"It’s ALWAYS exciting to brag on our students/Raiders! The heartbeat on the Male and Female Raider Teams have shined over the last 8 Raider meets with the highlight of the Male Team being named State Champions this past weekend. With both teams winning Region 8 Championships along with the State awards – Female Raider took 4th in State and brought home three 3rd place trophies – how can Elbert not be excited?!
NOW one more obstacle is in their way – the U.S. Army National Raider Championships held in Molena, GA.. The Competition starts Saturday (11/4) morning at 07:59. The scheduling Elbert will following throughout the day is going to be intense! (access the schedule here: http://bit.ly/2ykwHlT)
90 teams from 52 schools from across the Nation will be competing for the National Title. (access the school list here: http://bit.ly/2lDpyY1 ) I’m extremely optimistic that our Raiders will bring home some National trophies!
The teams leave Thursday morning (11/2 -- that’s today!) at 08:57 and will be in the woods (yes in the woods – camp fires and singing – to keep the bears away!!) at Lakota camp site Thursday – Saturday. Sunday morning will be a huge day as one male and one female will represent Elbert in the Ultimate Raider Challenge before the final awards ceremony. They are senior Logan Lyon and sophomore Maelynn Ruff. The top five in male and female will be recognized with a trophy. The last EC Raider to receive that honor was a female 7 years ago and she placed 5th.
One tradition the male commanders do is selecting freshmen to travel with the team for the experience and in hopes they’ll try out for the team next year. The freshmen selected this year are Johnathan Negrete, William Payne, Ian Warwick and Gabriel Pless.
We would appreciate encouraging words and prayers for our students as they enter this journey! Thank you for all your awesome support, Elbert County!"
