Jay Sconyers

Jay Sconyers recently graduated from the University of Georgia receiving a Masters of Music Education. He also received his Bachelors of Music Education from UGA where he studied trumpet with Professor Fred Mills. This is his first year as director of the Blue Devil Band.

Statement of Purpose

The Elbert County Blue Devil Band affords the individual member the opportunity to work as a part of a team, in an effort to achieve the highest degree of excellence possible, in order to help the individual member to improve his or her performance abilities and, more importantly, his or her character. Secondly to the needs of the individual, the Blue Devil Band strives to serve the school, community and state in being an ambassador for them in such a way that both pride and spirit of the organization are conveyed to be of the highest quality.
 

 

Objectives of the Band Program

  • To teach music by its actual performance.
  • To develop performance skills on the various wind and percussion instruments.
  • To provide for the musical needs of both the school and the community.
  • To develop awareness with regards to the selection of music.
  • To acquaint the students with the different periods and styles of music and how they relate to their time.
  • To provide for group experiences leading to the development of Esprit de Corps and self-discipline.
