ECMS applies for Georgia
Lighthouse Schools to Watch with Faculty
Celebration
Elbert County Middle School is in
the process of applying to become a Georgia Lighthouse
School to Watch. “A Lighthouse School to Watch
is a school that has conscientiously moved to meet
fully the nationally endorsed criteria for high-performing
middle schools, one that has made marked progress
in meeting all of these criteria, including measurable
gains in the academic achievement of all students
over time and is committed to continuous improvement”.
The Georgia Middle School Association, as well as
other educational organizations, recognize that effective
middle schools differ significantly from elementary
and secondary schools in curriculum and instruction,
preparation for teachers and principals, and organization
of time and space. ECMS has met AYP (Adequate Yearly
Progress) for the last 8 years and is continuously
developing programs to improve our curriculum to challenge
our students to think critically in all domains. Our
school is responsive to the unique challenges of the
middle school learner, and provides high quality teachers,
resources, learning opportunities and support to our
students. ECMS is committed to academic excellence
and provides a positive learning environment for all
students. Becoming a Georgia Lighthouse School to
Watch is a prestigious honor that the faculty can
celebrate with our students. This award will give
students, faculty, parents and the community a sense
of pride and validation that hard work does have value.

The mission of Elbert County
Middle School is to build a bridge to excellence
by preparing all students for life-long learning.
Our Beliefs:
Student learning is the chief
priority of the schools. Students learn best
when they are actively engaged in the learning
process and have appropriate opportunities
for success.
Each individual student has
unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual
needs and should be recognized, respected,
and valued.
A safe and physically comfortable
environment promotes student learning.
The success of the school
depends on students, teachers, administrators,
parents, and the community sharing the responsibility
for advancing the school’s mission.
Everyone has the ability
and the opportunity to learn.
The middle school years are
critical in the development of a healthy,
independent, and well-adjusted young adult.
Student accountability is
a foundation for academic success, and each
student is responsible for insuring that his/her
actions add to their own educational opportunity
as well as the opportunity for fellow students.
Federal law prohibits
discrimination on the basis of race, color or national
origin (Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964);
sex (Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972
and the Perkins Act of 1998); or disability (Section
504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans
with Disabilities Act of 1990) in educational programs
or activities receiving federal financial assistance.
Students, parents, employees and the general public
are hereby notified that the Elbert County Board of
Education does not discriminate in any educational
programs or activities or in employment policies.
