With
the current world events, it is of utmost importance that the students
be provided with the tools to become informed and responsible citizens.
Falling Creek Elementary currently implements a character education program,
as mandated by the State of Georgia's Department of Education, and also
has a Pride Program to promote pride in students. This grant helped
Falling Creek's Media Center purchase elementary level books that promote
character. The books have the potential to benefit the entire student
body of 400 students. Falling Creek's Media Center wanted to increase
the number of books related to character education in its media center.
The benefits
were students reading books about positive character traits. It was
difficult to determine the book's impact on the students' lives.
Therefore, the Accelerated Reader Report that depicted the test usage and
percentage correct is used as evidence that the project benefited the students.
This project had the potential to benefit
the entire student body by teachers supplementing character education lessons
with the books and by students reading the books independently. Through
this type of initiative, perhaps we will continue to have a positive impact
on students' character and promote the love of reading.
