This was a project that became an interest to a teacher because she inherited a saltwater fish tank from a retired teacher.  The teacher has never worked with saltwater fish.  She decided that this may as well be a learning experience for her students also.  They incorporated it as a classroom project with their ecology unit.  The cost of setting up a saltwater tank was quite expensive.  She already had the tank, stand, and filteration system.  The money of the grant was used to purchase the salt and other chemicals, light bulbs, food, and the animals.  The goal was to establish a saltwater tank as the culminating activity of an ecology unit.

The 10th grade honors biology students were responsible for the set up and maintenance of the tank, but it benefited all of that teachers biology students which included the honors class and two 10th grade technical career biology classes (approximately 70 students).
