The Elbert County Pupil Transportation Department is always looking for qualified bus drivers and substitute drivers.

Bus Drivers' Policy and Procedure Manual

The minimum qualifications for these positions are:
• Good interpersonal skills with children and their parents
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with P and S endorsements
• Qualifying Motor Vehicle Record for the past 7 years
• Must pass a Drug Screening
• Must pass a Physical
• Must undergo a criminal background check (including fingerprinting)

For qualified applicants, training is available -- including training to take the CDL Exam.

For the 2006-2007 school year, starting pay for full-time drivers is over $14.00 per hour! This is substantially above the $7 - $8 per hour paid by many fast food restaurants and other businesses.

Drivers pay is based on a minimum work day of 4 hours - with the opportunity to work more hours through field trips and other assignments. With a few exceptions, drivers are usually off when schools are closed (holidays, summer break, bad weather, etc.)

Benefits are also available, including:

• Our drivers are offered a supplemental pension plan.
