Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),
Welcome to 3rd grade. We are excited to work with you and your child this year. Third grade is a major shift for our students. They are expected to be more independent in their work habits and must prepare to take The End of Grade Test. As we prepare for a successful year, here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Attendance is important for academic success. Please make sure your child is here every day and on time. If he or she must be absent, please send in a doctor's or written excuse when s/he returns.
2. Communication is the key to success. We want to keep the lines of communication open. If your child's teacher uses Class DoJO to track daily behavior and as a communication tool, please make sure to sign up to receive immediate mobile alerts. Email is one of the best ways to communicate with us. We will answer e-mails as soon as possible. Also this year we will ask you to participate in our Academic School and Family Collaboration (ASFC). We will meet 3 times this year to discuss your child's progress in third grade. Please plan to attend these meetings.
3. Homework: We do not give "homework" in 3rd grade. We encourage our third graders to read their library books and spend time with their family. If your child needs extra practice with a skill such as reading fluency or multiplication, they may be asked to complete extra practice for homework.
Again, Welcome to third grade.
