• The Elbert County School District is proposing to lower the Millage Rate from 14.228 to 14.000 mills. We
held two public hearings on July 27, 2023 at 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The third meeting will be held on
Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 6:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Elbert County School District
    Board Office.
The Elbert County Board of Education is proposing a 2023 millage rate which will require an increase in
property taxes by 20.25% over the full roll-back rate percent.
All concerned citizens are invited to a public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the Elbert County
School District Board Office, 50 Laurel Drive, Elberton, GA 30635 on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 6:00
    pm.
The proposed millage rate is 14.00 mills, which is a decrease of .228 mills compared to the prior year.
However, the proposed mills are 2.358 above the full roll-back rate of 11.642 mills. Without this
tentative tax increase, the district could be at-risk of losing state equalization funds due to the millage
rate falling below 14 mills. Based on the proposed millage rate, the tax increase for a home with a fair
market value of $200,000 is approximately $141.48 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead
property with a fair market value of $200,000 is approximately $188.64.
